I do love a well-crafted cocktail. And while my appreciation skills are top-notch thanks to classy joints like DBGB, BONDST, and Tailor, my mixing skills are slightly more sub par. OK, to be frank, if it’s not a 50-50 ratio, I probably can’t make it. (I’ve got nothing on my compatriot in cocktail appreciation Boozy McGuzzles and her inspired infusions.) And so it is for discerning drinkers like myself that the Manhattan Cocktail Classic exists.

All you need is $50, a strong liver, and a thirst for knowledge to enroll in one of their cool classes, which range from sessions with your favorite mixologists, including the bartenders of PDT, Pegu Club, and Death & Co., to classes on basic cocktail construction, entertaining, and more. There are even sessions focusing on your libation of choice including tequila, rye, gin, and others. Or, if $50 is a bit steep for you, $25 will get you admission to and two drinks at the Cocktail Classic’s official bar at Astor Center, manned by “some of New York’s greatest bartenders.” A trip to the bar is included in admission for every class as well.

Though many of the more popular sessions (particularly the “Stories from Behind the Bar” series) are sold out, it’s not too late to get it on the fun with classes like “Have Cocktail Shaker, Will Travel” and “A Practical Guide to Barware from Around the World.” With proper instruction, the perfect martini might be within my reach just yet.
